I have found an excellent book on historical costume patterns: "Creating Historical Clothes" by Elizabeth Friendship, published by Batsford in 2013. It gives detailed instructions for drawing up patterns for historical costume, from Tudor to Victorian periods. There us a good level of historical detail, as well as clear instructions for the pattern drafting. It includes underpinnings like farthingales and bum-rolls, as well as basic corset patterns. I'm planning to use the information to make a bum-roll and hooped petticoat, so I'll keep you posted, Dear Reader, on how it goes.
